For hourly paid employees, you can create fixed, variable, and time-based pay supplements. This guide explains how to add a pay supplement as a salary component for an employee and how the supplement can be registered - either by you as an administrator or by the employee, depending on your setup.
Add the pay supplement as a salary component for an hourly-paid employee
Pay supplement and variable pay supplement are used in two different ways. You can read more about the supplement types here:
Supplement
Supplement
A salary supplement is a fixed amount that is automatically paid out in every payroll period.
The supplement is registered directly under Salary on the employee's profile and will not appear under the Pay supplements tab. The employee cannot register or modify this supplement themselves—it is managed exclusively by the payroll administrator.
The supplement is configured with:
Amount per unit (specified in the local currency)
Number of units (the number of units to be paid in each payroll period)
You can also choose how the supplement should be handled in relation to holiday pay and pension:
Excluding holiday pay
Excluding holiday pay and pension
Excluding pension
If you need a specific supplement, you can create a custom salary supplement yourself. Follow this guide to define which payroll components should be included in the supplement.
Variable supplement
Variable supplement
A variable salary supplement is a rate and amount that is paid in each payroll period. The supplement is registered under the Pay supplements tab. The employee can register or modify this supplement themselves.
The supplement is configured with:
Amount per unit (specified in the local currency)
If you need to exclude the pension basis, holiday pay basis, or SH/Fritvalg (Special Holiday Allowance/Flexible Benefits), you can create a custom salary supplement yourself. Follow this guide to define which payroll components should be included in the supplement.
Hourly rate supplement (all hours)
Hourly rate supplement (all hours)
An Hourly Wage Supplement (All Hours) is a supplement that is calculated based on the total number of registered hours across all pay rates. The supplement is automatically paid in each payroll period at a fixed hourly rate.
The supplement is configured with:
Amount per hour (specified in the local currency)
This supplement cannot be customized.
Time based supplements
Time based supplements
When creating custom hourly rates, you can specify hourly supplements—either as a fixed amount (DKK) or a percentage (%).
The supplement is automatically added to the hourly rate and included in the total amount paid.
Important:
If you want the supplement to appear as a separate item on the payslip, you must select a fixed amount.
If the supplement is specified as a percentage, it is added to the total hourly wage and will not appear separately on the payslip.
For instructions on how to create hourly rates, please follow this guide.
💡 Tip: You can create custom pay supplements, allowing you to choose the exact text that appears on the payslip.
You also decide whether the supplement should be included in other salary components, such as pension, holiday pay, or SH/Fritvalg. See how to do this in this guide.

If you want employees to register variable supplements themselves in the app, you must enable detailed entry under Pay supplements. Please note that the option to enable detailed entry is only displayed if no simple pay entries have been recorded. You must therefore delete any existing simple entries before the option becomes available.
Please note: These entries currently cannot be submitted for approval. This means that everything employees register in the app is automatically approved and transferred directly to payroll.
