Pay salary to a commission-based employee

Learn how to pay salary to employees who are set up as commission-based in Salary, and what you need to be aware of

If an employee has variable pay and is not paid by the hour, they can be set up as a commission-based employee in the system. Salary and working hours are registered separately and below are two methods for each type of registration.

It is important to register working hours, as ATP will otherwise not be calculated correctly.

Always check that both working hours and salary are shown on the payslip.

Salary registration

Method 1 - Give bonus

1. Go to the relevant employee and click Give bonus.

2. Click Create bonus.

3. Fill in the following:

  • Disposition date: Select the month in which the bonus should be paid. If the bonus should be included in the current month, you do not need to change anything.

  • Amount for bonus: Enter the total bonus amount. Alternatively, you can configure the system to use a rate and quantity instead of a fixed amount. See how to enable this feature here.

  • Type: Standard.

  • Pension: If the employee is enrolled in a pension scheme, you can choose whether the bonus should be included in the pensionable salary.

  • Include as holiday entitled pay: This should be enabled if the payment is regular salary.

  • Text on payslip: Enter the text that should appear on the employee's payslip in connection with the bonus.

Once all fields have been completed, click Save changes.

Method 2 - Variable pay supplements

1. Click the edit icon next to the Remuneration field.

2. Click Add remuneration line.

3. Please note that the employee will be changed to Salaried, so you must change the employment type back to Commissioned.

4. Select a Remuneration type from the drop-down menu and enter the rate per hour. Then click Save changes.

5. Click on Pay supplement.

6. Enter the quantity and click Save changes.

Going forward, you will no longer need to set up the pay supplement. Instead, simply register it under Pay supllements.

Working hours must still be registered using one of the methods described below.

After registering the payment, either by creating a bonus or adding a variable pay supplement, you must also register the employee's working hours. This can be done in two ways.
